Tabling of Linturi’s impeachment report shelved for later date

The 11 member committee probing the conduct of embattled agriculture cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi who is implicated in the fake fertiliser scandal, will not table its report today.

The business has not been featured in the order paper despite the speaker of the national assembly Moses Wetangula convening  a special sitting for its consideration.

The naomi Waqo led committee retreated on Friday for report writing after declining requests by the mover of the motion Wamboka Wanami to have senior govt officials appear before it for cross examining in the case where  Linturi is are facing a barrage of accusations, key among them authorising the procurement and distribution of fake fertiliser to farmers under the government’s subsidy programme. 

He is also accused of incompetence which has caused a food crisis.

Instead, the Finance bill 2024 which proposes a 16% tax on bread, among other tax proposals will be read for the first time.

Thereafter the finance committee led by Molo MP Kuria Kimani will embark for public participation for the amendments which the govt projects will raise over 300 billion shillings more for the 2024/2025 financial year.

The house will also be considering the senate report on the division of revenue bill whose proposals have been castigated with the the man vote shilling campaign resounding from different stakeholders

Latest being the  Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua  who now says the formula will ensure equity and fairness in the allocation of funds to the counties.

The budget committee, out of the  Ksh.2.9 trillion sharable revenue, has allocated  Ksh.2.5 trillion to the national while counties are set to receive Ksh.391 billion and an equalisation fund amounting to Ksh.7.8 billion.
