CS Tuya Urges Kenyans to Buy Trees for National Tree Planting Day

Environment CS Soipan Tuya has urged Kenyans to take the initiative to buy trees for the upcoming national tree planting day.

Speaking at the Mai Mahiu memorial service, she emphasized that Kenyans don’t have to wait for free seedlings from the government, as there are other avenues available.

Tuya noted that many Kenyans were already inquiring about seedlings ahead of the nationwide exercise.

“People are asking me for seedlings. Fellow Kenyans, please don’t wait for somebody to bring a seedling to your doorstep, please take responsibility. We have young people who have tree nurseries along our highways.

“Please spare something little for 50 seedlings only. Plant them somewhere and make sure you take care of them to maturity,” she stated.

She pointed out that seedlings are readily available at Kenya Forest Services (KFS) offices throughout the country.

The CS emphasized the importance of Kenyans actively participating in the national tree-planting exercise scheduled for Friday, May 10. She expressed gratitude for the significant turnout during the first national exercise held in November 2023, underlining the importance of tree planting in mitigating the effects of climate change.
