Russia donates oil worth $.1M for drought-stricken Kenyan counties

A consignment of fortified vegetable oil worth 1 million $ has been donated by the government of Russia.

The move is to support the drought-stricken arid counties of Kenya.

World Food Programme director Lauren Landis said the contribution would be distributed by WFP during this year’s lean season, when farming families typically face hunger.

According to Landis, the contribution is very timely since some Kenyan counties are suffering a third successive failed rainy season.

This year, because of the drought, we are providing support to families in our resilience programme for 10 months, instead of eight. This contribution from the Russian Federation is an important component of that package,” she said.

Additionally, WPF is supporting farming families so they can take up new farming practices, nutritious and drought-resistant crops in order to evade such incidences in the future.
