Sugarcane farmers supplying Kibos and Chemilil count losses after equipment breakdown

Nyanza based sugar cane farmers, are counting losses after two of their leading sugar factories broken down. Kibos and chemilil factories have led farmers to get stuck with at least 1,400 tonnes of harvest drying in the farms.

Agriculture principal secretary Hamadi Boga, states that kibos miller, has taken the sugarcane to neighboring contracted millers for processing to avert losses.

Kibos sugar cane milling factory, has opted to hire a technician from overseas, but says it will take some time for the repairs.

In a letter dated August 27 signed by Kibos Sugar Harvesting and Transport Manager, the company indicated that it suffered a major breakdown involving the turbines and asked the farmers not to transport any cane until further notice.
