SOUTH AFRICA’S EX PRESIDENT PERMITTED MEDICAL PAROLE

Jacob Zuma, South Africa’s jailed former President has been granted medical parole. He is serving a 15-month sentence for contempt of court at Estcourt Correctional Centre. 

Though the nature of his illness is not specified, a statement said he would complete the rest of his sentence in the community under special conditions. He will remain in the hospital where he underwent surgery until he is discharged. The 79 year old is the first ex president in the history of South Africa to be jailed.

Though he was forced out of office by his own party in 2018, the African National Congress (ANC), he retains a loyal body of supporters, especially in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal.

Zuma, the 9 years power holder in South Africa, was sentenced on 29 June this year. for disobeying  an order to present  substantial evidence at an inquiry into corruption during his tenure. He has ever since  presented himself once.

South Africa’s magnates have been mentioned to influence states’ decisions during his regime, which Zuma stands victim of.

The ANC party leader has still been supported by his loyal voters especially from his local home,Kwazulu-Natal.
