Storyline: Kipchoge: The Last Milestone is a cinematic portrait of world record marathon holder Eliud Kipchoge as he prepares to break one of the last milestones in sporting history: the sub-two-hour marathon.

The documentary follows his journey from his training grounds in Kenya, to the high-tech facilities in Europe, to his record attempt in Vienna. His motto: no human is limited. The film also takes a personal look at the athlete with footage from Kipchoge’s home in Kenya, interviews with those closest to him, the daily rituals of his life, and the dynamics within his team and community.

For the most part, The Last Milestone is happy to perpetuate the notion that Kipchoge is distance running’s ascetic holy man, possessed by immense self-discipline and uninterested in all that material crap. We are reminded of his humility and penchant for Spartan training conditions—traits that are of course essential to his monk-like image, an image that certain purists want to see maintained at all costs.

Thumbs up: The soaring drone shots of Kipchoge and his crew logging miles in the Rift Valley mist are irresistible. How can you be a runner and not love this stuff?

Thumbs down: Some scenes you may have seen before.
