Primary and secondary schools to adopt sports committees

The ministry of education says all primary and secondary schools will have sports committees to manage the teaching of physical education (P.E).

Education CS George Magoha says, teachers will be required to regularly train to teach physical education.

He says, although physical education is currently taught in schools, it is not always enforced and is non-examinable.

In a draft of new guidelines by the Education Ministry, physical education will be compulsory and taught like other disciplines.

The guidelines will see physical education align schools with the new Competency-Based Curriculum.

The 2-6-6-3 education system has entrenched sports as a learning area and career pathway.
