National Assembly speaker calls for decorum among MPs

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has asked the members of parliament to follow due process in Thursday’s budget reading.

This is after the MPs threatened to disrupt the budget reading following the delay in the disbursement of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

The MPs claim the Treasury failed to honour its earlier promise to have the money disbursed to the constituencies before the end of the current financial year.

Committee chair Kanini Kega called on the lawmakers to adopt the report on the 2021-2022 financial year before the approval of 1.95 trillion shillings for the next financial year starting July.

This year’s budget of 3.63 trillion shillings will focus on the Covid-19 pandemic, recovering the economy and the government’s Big Four agenda.
