MPs have expressed concern of the 3.6 trillion shillings budget saying it attracts much borrowing that will exceed the approved debt ceiling .
The Budget and Appropriation Committee, led by its chair Kanini Kega say parliament will need to raise the ceiling to accommodate the debt for the next financial year.
Kega noted that the consolidate fund has exceeded the recurrent expenditure for the first time.
The National Treasury had set the overall budget for the next financial year starting 1 July, at 3.66 trillion Shillings, compared to the current financial year’s 2.8 trillion Shillings for the year ending 30 June.
The Treasury has proposed 1.29 trillion Shillings to go into recurrent expenditure with development taking 666.5 billion Shillings .
CS Ukur Yatani is expected to present the budget estimates at parliament on Thursday afternoon.
