Jan, 25th 2021 – Tension remains high in Kapedo area in the North of the country as security forces continue with their operations to flush out bandits. Reports indicate that at least 10 people including four security officers have been killed for the last one week.
Several other officers have been injured in the operation being conducted by a multi-agency security team. Among those killed are four officers and six civilians who were shot under unclear circumstances.
Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya, says that no arrests have been made as the operation involving the General Service Unit (GSU), Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), and Anti-Stock Theft Unit and police enter its second week. He said, “We want to use force to recover the firearms used to unleash mayhem.”
According to reports, the officer who was in charge of the RDU at Kapedo camp was ambushed by the bandits while heading to the station.
Mr. Natembeya said, “Our security teams have not been overwhelmed by the bandits. Police have changed tactics and are ready to face the bandits head-on. No other police officer will be killed by these criminals.”
Tiaty MP William Kamket was arrested last Thursday and is being investigated over the recent attacks while Silale MCA Nelson Lotela surrendered to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Nakuru over the weekend for questioning.
