Jan, 7th 2020 – Gor Mahia have been bundled out of the CAF champions league after losing 2-1 on the day and 8-1 on aggregate in the hands of CR Belouizdad at the Nyayo national stadium. ‘Kogalo’ had already lost 6-0 in Algeria on boxing day. The Kenyan side will now drop to the CAF confederation cup which is the second tier of continental Africa club competition.
The loss for Gor Mahia was surrounded by disquiet in the camp with allegations of unpaid salaries and allowances. Some players were said to have absconded training until their dues were paid.
Before the return leg on Wednesday, stand-in coach Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ had indicated that it was mission impossible after a heavy loss in Algiers.
In the region Tanzania’s Simba SC qualified to the group stages after seeing off Platinum of Zimbabwe and TP Mazembe of DR Congo also made it through with a win over Bouenguidi of Gabon.
