Dec, 22nd 2020 – Barcelona now face competition from Juventus to sign Lyon forward Memphis Depay. Ronald Koeman, who worked with Depay during his time in charge of the Holland national team, identified him as a key target in the summer but a deal never materialized.
Depay’s contract expires at the end of this season and could be available for as little as £4.5million when the transfer window opens next month.
According to latest information, Lyons are willing to sell Depay for just €5 million. Any potential deal would also need approval from the interim board as the Barcelona presidential elections are not set to be held for another month.
On Barcelona’s side, things haven’t changed much. If they are to get approvals to sign Depay, they would then need to sell a couple of players for both sporting reasons and financial reasons.
Depay wants to come back to Barcelona but other clubs could be interested in him too since Lyon is eager to sell. He and Lyon are on rush to facilitate a move and if he is at the top of their wish list, it’s time for Barca to make the next move.
