Dec, 18th 2020 – A special team has been appointed to review and improve the implementation of the medical equipment to the counties. The management team which was appointed by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, will interrogate the challenges faced in the roll-out of the project.
The team is to audit infrastructural challenges such as staff shortage to operate the specialized equipment and consider ways of improving equipment operations and also ensure all other factors required for the successful implementation of the project are addressed.
Kagwe in a statement said, “It will be recalled that the Government entered into various contracts for the supply of a variety of equipment and facilities for use in counties. The initial set of medical equipment to be provided through Managed Equipment Services arrangement were in seven lots.”
The team chaired by Goerge Ooko who is the chairman of the KNH, comprises representatives from treasury, council of governors, health ministry, Kenyatta and Nairobi university.
The project has already come under sharp scrutiny from the senate committee with findings that some of the equipment was overpriced and also forced on the counties without consultations.
The items include, renal equipment, ICU and radiology equipment, theatre equipment, laboratory equipment Category 1 and 2 respectively and theatre Central Sterile Supply Department equipment.
