Dec, 15th 2020 – President Donald Trump has announced that the US Attorney General William Barr will step down before Christmas though his term was due to end on 20 January 2021, when Trump leaves office.
Trump in a tweet said, “Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House. Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job! As per letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family.”
He added, “Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen, an outstanding person, will become Acting Attorney General. Highly respected Richard Donoghue will be taking over the duties of Deputy Attorney General. Thank you to all!“
There had been tension between the two after Mr. Barr said there was no widespread evidence of voter fraud in November’s election. Trump has criticized Bar for not publicly disclosing that the justice department, was investigating Joe Biden’s son during the campaign.
The letter of resignation for Barr as shared on Twitter by Trump praised him as he said that he felt “proud to have played a role in the many successes and unprecedented achievements you have delivered for the American people.”
Barr’s letter continued, “Your record is all the more historic because you accomplished it in the face of relentless, implacable resistance. Few could have weathered these attacks, much less forge ahead with a positive program for the country.”
Despite his recent critics, Trump in his tweet implied that he had no ill towards Barr,
