Dec, 15th 2020 – Three suspects are being held in custody for being in connection with the robbery incident that took place at Manu Chandaria’s home in Muthaiga yesterday. A police officer is among the three suspects arrested over the robbery with violence at the residence of the billionaire.
More than 600,000 shillings was stolen when the armed gangsters broke into the house ordering the tycoon to produce money before escaping with it. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), police constable Jared Omboga Makambe was on guard at the home during the incident.
Omboga together with two other private security guards namely Stephen Omwga and Judah Wafula were arrested.
According to a statement by DCI on Twitter, “Preliminary investigations have established that the businessman heard a loud bang on his main door and his efforts to call his gate’s security phone proved futile. Two armed thugs then gained entry into his house and robbed him of an unknown amount of money and assorted jewelry at gunpoint.”
It is said that the robbers escaped while firing a G3 riffle that was allegedly stolen from the police officer on guard. According to DCI, “Officers responding to the scene conducted a thorough search leading to the recovery of the suspected stolen G3 rifle in a nearby bush.”
Confirming the incident, Nairobi regional police commander Rashid Yakub said the police are interrogating the suspects at different police stations.
The DCI have called on the public to provide any information on the robbers to assist in the investigation.
