Dec, 9th 2020 – US president-elect Joe Biden says that he will change the course of covid-19 during his first months in office. He has asked Americans to mask up for 100 days after he takes over as president. He further set a goal to administer 100 million Covid vaccinations in his first 100 days in office.
He said, “In 100 days, we can change the course of the disease and change life in America for the better. Whatever your politics or point of view, mask up for 100 days. We did not get into this mess quickly. We’re not going to get out of it quickly. It’s going to take some time.”
This comes in the wake of a record 15 million cases of infection in the pandemic so far and 285,000 deaths as reported by John Hopkins University.
Biden says that his transition team is working on its own coronavirus relief package saying that his aides have signaled that they plan for that to be their first legislative push. The president elect has also asked Dr. Anthony Fauci to stay on his administration. He will be the chief medical adviser as well as part of his Covid-19 advisory team.
He will serve the same role he had for the previous presidents as the director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the nation’s top infectious disease expert.
Speaking from his transition headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden said that his top goals, developed with Dr. Fauci involve distributing vaccines, reopening schools and mask wearing where possible.
