Dec, 7th 2020 – Kenyan KiBiwott Kandie has set a new half marathon world record in Valencia Spain. The 24-year-old Kenyan, who finished second at the World Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland, in October, knocked 29 seconds from the previous record of 58:01 set by Geoffrey Kamworor in 2019.
Taking more than a minute off his previous personal record of 58:37, KiBiwott finished the race in 57:32. The runners victory represents a new world record.
This year, it is the fourth time the athlete has competed in the sub-59 minutes having done so at the Ras Al Khaimah, Prague and Gdynia half marathons.
In the ladies category Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba won it ahead of Kenyan Sheila Chepkirui in a time of 1:05:18 seconds. Sheila came in second while Senbere Teferi completed the race coming in third place.
