The four suspects in the Nairobi teenage party [Citizen Tv]
Dec, 2nd 2020 – A Nairobi Magistrate court has ordered four suspects alleged to be the organizers of the teenage party at Nairobi’s Mountain View Estate be charged tomorrow.
Magistrate Caroline Muthoni declined to grant the prosecution a further five days to detain Millicent Muthoni Kithinji, David Kibe Wambui, George Kamau Muthoni and Michael Murega instead granted them one more day.
The host and main suspect, Millicent is said to be in her early 40s. The prosecution says that the 44 teenagers were drawn from Kiambu, Nairobi and Machakos counties.
According to Corporal Julius Oguma, if the suspects get released, they will interfere with the witnesses. He urged the magistrate to keep them in custody in order to maintain the integrity of the process.
He said, “Their gadgets were taken for analysis and investigations are not yet complete. We pray for five more days so the investigation officer can conclude the investigations.”
Millicent’s Lawyer however opposed the application arguing that it was unfair to ask to ask for more days. She said, “All the children’s statements were taken by the Children’s Department, and upon their statements being taken, that is when they were released.“
She further claims that the children were released and have since not been called back to record any statements. The police according to the defense did not state whether the children were being intimidated as no one has complained.
The lawyer stated that the four have fully cooperated with the police and their statements taken. The court has also been informed that Murega is a student and needs to prepare for his exams.
