Dec 1st 2020 – US President Donald Trump’s controversial special adviser on coronavirus, Scott Atlas, has resigned.

Thanking Trump for the honour of serving the American people,  Atlas said he had always relied on the latest science, and evidence without any political consideration or influence. “I am writing to resign from my position as special adviser to the president of the United States,” Atlas said in a letter to Trump dated Dec. 1 that he posted on his Twitter account.

During his four months in the role, however, Dr. Atlas questioned the need for masks and other measures to control the pandemic, thus he clashed with other members of the coronavirus task force.

Public health experts, including Anthony Fauci, who is leading the U.S. infectious disease expert, sharply criticized Atlas, for providing Trump with misleading or incorrect information on the virus pandemic.

Dr. Scott Atlas’ resignation is long overdue and underscores the triumph of science and truth over falsehoods and misinformation,” his peers at Stanford University’s medical school, said in a statement issued late Monday.

In his last words, Atlas wished the best to the incoming coronavirus team under the Biden administration.
