30/ 11/2020 – Besieged Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, has accused the county assembly of contempt of court following the ouster Motion tabled last week to continue
The Nairobi Governor reiterated that the county assembly is violating orders stopping his impeachment. He said a case relating to the previous impeachment bid by Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok, is already in court and that the Speaker is a party to it.
However Members of Parliament proposing his impeachment, say the current proceedings are not bound by a court order.
Through lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, Sonko has written to the assembly speaker Benson Mutura, urging him to stop the ongoing impeachment process until the case before the Employment and Labour Relations Court is determined.
“By your purporting to process a fresh impeachment Motion against Mike Sonko Mbuvi while these proceedings are pending, you have committed an act of intentional disrespect to these judicial proceedings in breach of Section 36 of the High Court Act, 2015, which constitutes contempt of court,” wrote Mr Kinyanjui in a letter dated 27th November.
Governor Sonko is expected to appear in the assembly on Tuesday.
