Nov, 23rd 2020 – Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has extended the appointment of Taib Ali Taib and James Kihara as special prosecutors by two more years.

Taib, Kihara and Philip Murgor are among three high profile applicants Haji had gazetted in January 2019 to provide special legal services to his office. Haji, in 2019 said that the move was aimed at strengthening the capacity at his office considering the increasing complexity of crime.

At the time, Haji said, “I also wanted an independent person to handle the matter because there were allegations of bias and witch hunt against my office at large.

In a notice on the Kenya Gazette, Haji said that the re-appointment will take effect on the 16th of January 2021 when the current contract ends.

The former Mombasa Mayor has been prosecuting the corruption case against former treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge.

Murgor however quit after appearing as counsel for Sarah Wairimu Cohen in a murder case.
