2020 US Elections: Trump ally urges him to accept defeat

Nov, 23rd 2020 – A prominent ally of Donald Trump, Chris Christie has urged him to drop his efforts to overturn his loss to Joe Biden in the US presidential election calling the president’s legat team a “national embarrassment”.

President Trump has refused to concede the election, making unsubstantiated claims of widespread electoral fraud. Many Republicans have supported his legal efforts but a small but growing number have broken ranks.

Mr. Trump on Saturday suffered a huge blow in Pennsylvania after a judge dismissed a lawsuit from Trump campaign seeking to invalidate mail votes in the battleground state. Judge Matthew Brann said that his court had been presented with “strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations”.

Mr. Christie, a former New Jersey governor, said, “Quite frankly, the conduct of the president’s legal team has been a national embarrassment.” He added that Trump camp often discussed election fraud outside the courtroom but don’t argue nor plead fraud when they go inside the courtroom.

He said, “I have been a supporter of the president’s. I voted for him twice. But elections have consequences, and we cannot continue to act as if something happened here that didn’t happen.”

In 2016, Mr. Christie was the first governor to endorse Mr. Trump as a presidential candidate. He also aided in preparations for the US debate earlier this year against Mr. Biden.

Mr. Christie criticized Sidney Powell, a lawyer who appeared with Trump’s legal team during a press conference on Thursday. Without evidence, she claimed that the electronic voting systems switched millions of ballots to Biden and that he also won thanks to ‘communist money.’

On Sunday, Trump campaign made a move to distance themselves from Ms Powell saying that she is practicing law on her own and is not a member of the Trump legal team.
