Nov 19th 2020 – Uganda’s recorded death toll from the Wednesday demonstrations, against the arrest of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has risen to seven.
Police have confirm that 40 people were also also been injured in the protests. However they have not explained the cause of the deaths or the nature of the injuries.
Videos and photos shared on social media, show several people lying in the streets, allegedly shot dead.
The country’s Red Cross said in a statement, that their frontline workers, has assisted 11 people with gunshot wounds.
Bobi Wine, is said to have been arrested at a campaign rally, in the east of the country, over claims that he was not observing the COVID-19 safety measures.
In the meantime, other opposition presidential aspirants, have suspended their campaign meetings, calling for fellow contestants, in police custody, to be released.
