Nov, 18th 2020 – Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi is set to launch the distribution of the Huduma number cards today. The distributions will begin at 11am at Kiambu county commissioner’s office. The CS shall be in the company of Kiambu governor James Nyoro and Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi.
Another similar exercise will be conducted by ICT CS joe Mucheru at the Machakos Golf club. The Huduma number project was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on 7th November 2013 with the aim to enhance the access and delivery of Government Services to all Kenyans.
This comes after swearing in of Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait on Monday, an exercise that paved way for the national roll of Huduma Cards. She is the country’s first holder of the position which will be responsible for the enforcement of the Data Protection Act which aims at exercising an oversight on data protection related issues and conducting research on data processing development.
During the 11th Mashujaa Day celebrations at Gusii stadium in Kisii, the president commissioned the issuance of the cards as he and the first lady Margret Kenyatta and 10 other Kenyans received their Huduma Cards. The president added that the new number is crucial because it captures individuals’ data by various government agencies in one card.
The card will have all the data merged and installed in an electronic chip that will capture details in the National Identity card, National Hospital Insurance Fund, National Social Security Fund among others.
