Nov, 17th 2020 – Kenyan 3000 meters steeplechase Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto has pleaded not guilty after he appeared in court on charges of defilement. Kipruto, who won 3000m steeplechase gold at Rio 2016, was released on a KSH 200,000 bond.
The 25-year-old, who is also the reigning double world champion, has only competed in one race this year after contracting Covid-19 before the shortened Diamond League season was set to begin.
According to a police report filed at Mosoiroit Police post, the parents of the alleged girl said that she had gone missing for three days and claimed that she had been camping at the athlete’s home in Chemusai.
At the time, Chesumei OCPD Bosita Omukolongolo said that, “We cannot immediately confirm whether the girl is a minor or an adult. However, we are looking for the athlete whose whereabouts remain unknown. Upon arresting the suspect, we shall record his statement and thereafter conclude investigations into the defilement allegations.“
His case will be heard in May 2021 that is two months before he is scheduled to defend his Olympic title in Tokyo
