Nov, 10th 2020 – Nakuru hells gate member of County Assembly John Njuguna has succumbed to Covid-d 19. He was admitted at the Intensive care unit Nakuru Nursing home after developing breathing complications.
Nakuru Assembly Speaker Joel Kairu on Monday confirmed the death of the MCA. Mr. Kairu described the late Njuguna as committed and active ward representative. “Today is a sad day for the residents of Nakuru County as we have lost one of our most committed members of the county assembly who died this afternoon. On behalf of the assembly, I wish to send our message of condolences to his family and the people of Naivasha,” he said.
His death comes as the Nakuru Assembly remains closed following confirmed cases among the members in the Assembly. The Assembly closed for 14 days on the 2nd of November. His close friends, family and MCAs gathered at Nakuru Nursing Home before his body was taken to the Umash Funeral Home, in Nakuru.
Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui and the Assembly Speaker are expected to issue statements concerning his death. The governor said that in his last conversation with the late Njuguna was a discussion on the plans of opening some of the corridors to Lake Naivasha which fishermen have been denied access for many years.
Before his death, he had been elected the chairman of the security and governance committee at the Nakuru County Assembly. The Nakuru Assembly will remain closed for another 10 days. His death comes when Nakuru has experienced a surge in Covid-19 cases with at least 60 health workers contracting the virus.
