Nov 6th 2020 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has commended the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), for an increase of revenue collection in the last financial year, despite the challenges brought by the corona virus pandemic.
Speaking during the Tax Payers day, the President said the country registered a growth of 1.7 percent, over the previous financial year,
“Last financial year 2019/2020, the national exchequer received tax revenue, amounting to slightly over Ksh 1.6 trillion.”
“The question we should ask ourselves, is how we as a country, managed to grow our tax revenue, when we were under such stress. The answer I believe fellow Kenyans, is simple, it was due to the dedication and love for the country, combined with hard work, and diligence ,” said the President.“
While saluting Kenyans on their patriotism, the Head of State also urged them, to continue paying the taxes voluntarily , to ensure the nation’s activities run smoothly.
Speaking at the event, the Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General Mr. Githii Mburu, said the authority celebrates taxpayers, as an important highlight in the country’s transformation journey.
Mr. Mburu further said, the main objective of this occasion, is to recognize taxpayers from various sectors of the country’s economy, and their contributions towards nation building.
This year’s Taxpayer’s Day, is anchored in the theme, ‘enhancing tax administration, for economic stability’
