Nov, 1st 2020 – World vegan day is celebrated across the globe every 1st of November.
The day marks the founding of the day for the Vegan Society in the United Kingdom.
The day is observed to motivate people to follow a vegan lifestyle that is beneficial to the environment and animals’ welfare.
The difference between a vegan and a vegetarian is that veganism is the practice of abstaining from use of animal products in the diet while vegetarianism is the practice of abstaining from consumption of meat and may also include by products of animal slaughter.
This means, people who eat meat, eggs, etc are vegetarians while those who do not consume products such as milk, cheese, paneer etc are vegans.
The idea of celebrating this day was proposed in 1944 when the vegan society was established.
However, it came to be observed in 1979 and since then, November 1st has been World Vegan Day come every year.
Veganism is a lifestyle choice for every individual as it is healthy and comes with a lot o health benefits.
One can only adopt to a vegan diet when they understand the advantages and disadvantages of the lifestyle.
Some of the advantages are:
• Valuable nutrients.
• Comparison of vegetable and animal sources
• Prevention of diseases.
• Slimming effect, etc.
Some of the disadvantages are:
• Risk of getting vitamin B12 deficiency
• Lack of vegan medication
• Cost factor and effect, etc.
There is a growing awareness of conscious eating along with need to maintain a healthy immunity which is turning people to vegan, in both their lifestyle and diets.
Veganism is a social justice movement for animals.
