Oct, 30th 2020 – Former Jubilee party gubernatorial candidate Mabel Muruli has succumbed to Covid-19.
Her brother, George Muruli confirmed the development stating that Ms Muruli died on Friday Morning. he said, “she was at the ICU wing at Karen Hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized care.”
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya is among the leaders who grieved with the late politician’s family. “I’ve learnt with shock and sadness the death of Mama Mable Muruli. Kakamega has lost its hard working, committed, courageous and humble daughter whose contribution towards the growth of our County will be missed. May God grant her family fortitude and strength to bear the loss.”
Other leaders from the Western region have also condoled with the family. Her death comes just a few days after the death of Kakamega Chief of Staff Robert Sumbi, who also succumbed to Covid-19.
In Kakamega county, the surge in the number of infections prompted the Governor to issue a directive for all county gobvernment workers to undergo mandatory testing.
Health Cabinet Secretary on Thursday noted that the second wave which has started could make or break the country’s battle against Covid-19 as most Kenyans have let their guard down.
During a press briefing on Thursday, he said, “Numbers are going up. We are on a second wave. Private hospitals are already stretched out and the faith we have in our own public sector is wanting. Yesterday (Wednesday) positivity rate was at 15 per cent. This week alone 54 people have died. 14 have died today raising the death toll to 964.”
