Oct 27th 2020 – Two university students, have been charged with conspiracy to defraud the NCBA Bank, through hacking.
Charged in Milimani law court on Monday, the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology students, Ann Wambui, 23 and Anthony Mwangi 21, are alleged to have committed the offence on or before October 20th 2020.
The court heard that between 20th October and 22nd October, the accused stole Ksh 25.4 million shillings, from the NCBA Bank, in Nairobi, Upper Hill area.
Their lawyer Stephen Arunda told the court, that it was a communication from Mwangi to the bank, about a system irregularity, that led to their prosecution.
“When the bank failed to respond, he took upon himself to write to an sms, and was in communication with the bank,” said Arunda.
The accused who were charged with a second count of stealing, denied the charges, before Milimani Principal Magistrate Caroline Muthoni, and were granted a cash worth Ksh 500,000 each, with an alternative bond of Ksh 2 million.
The case will be mentioned on November 10, for pre-trial.
