Oct, 26th 2020 – US presidential challenger Joe Biden on Sunday accused Donald Trump of giving up in the fight against Covid-19 as the president faced a new outbreak in his team, surging infections nationwide and an uncomfortable admission by his chief of staff
Just nine days to voting, Mark Meadows, Trump’s chief of staff admitted that coronavirus is just a flu which will only be controlled through vaccines and therapeutics, “we are not going to control the pandemic, it is a contagious virus just like the flu.“
Biden immediately grasped on the comment as he criticized the administration over the virus which in the recent days has set new records.
The Former vice president in a statement said, “It was a candid acknowledgement of what President Trump’s strategy has clearly been from the beginning of this crisis, to wave the white flag of defeat and hope that by ignoring it, the virus would simply go away.“
With time running out, Trump’s efforts to shift voter’s attention elsewhere or downplay the severity of this pandemic has been met with constant negative news about the virus.
Trump brushed off the bad news telling supporters in New Hampshire, “We are coming around, we are rounding the turn. we have vaccines, we have everything, even without the vaccines, we are rounding the turn.“
Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris has also criticized Meadow for likening the coronavirus to the flu. she said, “This is the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of America.“
Kate Bedingfield, Biden’s campaign manager defended him after he decided to hold a virtual concert on Sunday. She said, “The difference between what we are doing and what Donald is doing is that we’re doing it safely.”
