Oct, 23rd 2020 – Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been released on a 4 million shillings cash bail. Her aide, Geoffrey Otieno has also been released on cash bail of 1.5 million shillings with an alternative bond of 1 million shillings.
High court Judge Njoki Mwangi has also directed that the accused deposit their passports with the court and warned them against interfering with any witness.
Jumwa’s team of four lawyers including Danstan Omari, Jared Magolo and Wycliff Ombetta opposed DPP Alloys Kemo’s claims that their client could intimidate key witnesses in the case.
Magolo said, “This matter has been pending before court for one year. The accused persons have been out on bond, and the victims have not complained of any intimidation or harassment.”
Ombata argued that their client being an influential person cannot be a reason to deny her bail. “It is in fact discriminatory to use the accused person’s position to deny her bail. We have seen governors and other people who have more influential position released on bond.”
The two denied any involvement in the killing of Jola Gumbao that happened on October 15th 2019 during the Ganda by-election campaigns.
