Wednesday, 21st 2020 – Protestors against police brutality in Nigeria have been shot dead after soldiers opened fire in Lagos. According to BBC Nigerian correspondent Mayen Jones, armed soldiers were seen barricading the protest sites just before the shooting.
Protestors took it to the streets two weeks ago after a video circulated of a man being beaten apparently by police officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad known as SARS.
A witness speaking to BBC said he could be able to count about 20 bodies and at least 50 injured after the soldiers opened fire. “They were firing and they were advancing straight at us. It was chaos. Somebody got hit straight beside me and he died on the spot.”
Authorities have promised an investigation an investigation into the shooting.
