Oct 20th, 2020 – Health Workers Unions have given the government seven days strike notice to implement a raft of issue.
In a joint statement, the workers said they will go on strike on October 29 if the government fails to act on promotions and adequate supply of personal protective equipment.
The workers further demanded that promotions be effected based on years of stagnation.
Kenya Health Professionals Society (KHPS) Chairperson Mohammed Duba, says their demands have fallen on deaf ears even as the health workers lead the fight against covid 19, “We want to appeal to His Excellency the President, to form a commission to look into the historical injustice, that is perpetuated at Afya House.”
The Nairobi Branch, Kenya National Union of Nurses, Secretary Maureen Nzioka, says they have engaged the Health Ministry, together with the Public Service Commission, on their grievances, but are yet to receive any communication.
