Fire erupts on Mt Kilimanjaro

An inferno has been noted on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro and is very visible from Moshi town in Tanzania, which is 10 kilometers away from the Mountain. According to the Kilimanjaro National Park, the fire is said to have begun on Sunday 11th October 2020. The communications manager at Tanzania National Park, Patrick Shelutete confirmed this report and is set to release a statement on the same.

The source of the fire remains unestablished however, residents in neighboring communities have joined efforts in extinguishing the fire but to no success.

Mountain climbers on the Marangu route who were at Kibo Hut reported having seen the fire in shrubs that are close to Mandara. The fire might spread further owing to the nature of the vegetation in the area. Perhaps many scientific studies may have subjected the vegetation to the fire as many scientific studies are carried out here because of its shrinking glaciers and disappearing ice fields. Mount Kilimanjaro has 3 Volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, it is the 4th most prominent peak on earth.
