Anti-riot Police in Nyamira have been stationed at Kebirigo primary school, where Deputy President William Ruto is expected to lead a fundraising event today. Nyamira county commissioner Amos Mariba is said to have canceled the meeting which was to be held at the school. However, no reason has been given by the authorities for the cancellation of the meeting.
These developments come just a day after the National Security Advisory Council Committee issued a raft of directives through the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua saying, “A convener or any person intending to hold a meeting shall notify the officer at a commanding station three days before the procession”.
Meanwhile a section of members of parliament from Nyamira county say the meeting that was meant to fund raise for the bodaboda operators will continue despite the heavy police presence at Kebirigo primary school. Kitutu Masaba MP Shardack Mose says they had already notified the area police about the meeting .
Deputy President William Ruto is still expected to arrive in Nyamira at 2 pm. At the venue of the planned meeting, tents and seats have been removed under the supervision of the anti-riot police who have camped there.
