Oct 2nd, 2020 – An online Christian bookseller in China, has been given a seven year-sentence and fined close to $30,000, for his business dealings, with the Chinese government, regarding it ‘an illegal business’.

The Persecution Watchdog International Christian Concern (ICC), reports that in September 2019, the bookseller Chen Yu, who operated online in Zhejiang province’s Taizhou city, was detained for selling unapproved religious publications, imported from Taiwan, the U.S, and other countries.

Reports claim that Chen will have his iPhone seized by the authorities, while the 12,864 Christian books from his bookstore will be destroyed by the Linhai City Public Security Bureau.

ICC also reports that police officers have launched a nationwide investigation, to track down Chen Yu’s buyers, through sale records.

The government says it intends to confiscate, the ‘illegal religious’ purchased books.

The Organization’s Regional Manager for Southeast Asia, Gina Goh, has said that Chen’s sentencing, reveals China’s Communist Party is increasingly frightened by all things religious.

She further added that, “The U.S. government and the international community, should continue to stand up to the tyranny in China,”

According to the Open Doors World Watch List in the US, China is now ranked as one of the leading countries in the world, for Christian Persecutions.
