Sept 29th, 2020 – Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho, has defended his step, in opening Mama Ngina gardens for celebrations during the World Tourism Day on 27th of September 2020.
Speaking in Mombasa, Governor Joho said the event aimed at offering comfort to the locals, during these COVID-19 times, especially while angling on the recent mental issues arising in the country.
“We have serious mental health issues, and thus we must allow our people space to get entertained and avoid more cases of people succumbing to these issues”, said Joho.
Joho’s sentiments come after some Kenyans, ranted on social media, noting that a large number of those who attended the function, did not adhere to the set COVID-19 containment measures.
“Some people obviously will criticize us, but we’ll allow them to do that. Life has two sides, the serious and the fun part,” added the governor.
The event, attracted a huge crowd, including Kenyan artistes and even food vendors, witnessing a huge public gathering for the first time since March.
