“No! No! No! This can’t be happening. How in the world, does Sebastian Topper Lexington, my ex-boyfriend, get to be the acting CEO? He’s not even part of the company,” I complain to Dylan as we eat lunch, “I have never been so embarrassed in my life! You should have seen that smug smile in his face,” I say as I dig my teeth deep into the sandwich.
“Yeah, I saw that. Plus, I had already warned you in advance, but you didn’t listen,” Dylan says and I roll my eyes at him. “So, what are you going to do, now that Topper will be your new boss?” he asks and I pinch the brim of my nose while shaking my head.
“I don’t know. But I have a feeling that this won’t end well,” I sigh heavily and reach for my orange juice, as I raise the glass to my lips, I spot a figure standing beside me and the familiar signature cologne makes me want to hurl my insides out. I know it’s him. I lift my head up to face him and he’s smiling down at me.
“Why wasn’t I invited for lunch?” he asks, as he grabs a chair and places it next to mine and slowly his tall figure descends to the chair. I look away immediately and Dylan clears his thoat and excuses himself.
“Where are you going?” I ask him.
“Uhm… I have some unfinished work. See you later,” he says and dashes out of the cafeteria. Now, it’s just Topper and I. I wish I could just disappear into thin air.
“You still look good,” he coos and I turn to face him.
“Excuse me?” my eyes shoot invisible daggers at him.
“You’re avoiding me,” he says while trying to make eye contact with me.
“I’m not avoiding you, you’re literally everywhere, Topper. Everywhere! Just when I thought you’d disappeared out of my life, then here you are! Walking all over my work place. It’s annoying,” I cross my arms in front of my chest and roll my eyes.
“So, you’re basically saying that you’re jealous and that you still haven’t gotten over me?” he asks and glare at him.
“What is wrong with you? Leave me alone and go one with the tour around the company. I have work to do and don’t even think about looking for me. My desk is off limits, okay?”
“Fine then, see you around,” he coos and winks at me as he leaves the table, “Oh, and hey?”
“What?!” I snap at him.
“Keep in mind that I’ll be your new boss,” he says and walks away majestically, leaving me behind boiling with anger. He really didn’t have to rub it in like at.
I really want this day to end, right now, but there’s like three more hours. I groan at the thought of that and head back to the office.
As I am busy typing away, trying to distract myself, Kelly walks up to my desk.
“Mr. Lexington would like to see you in his office, he doesn’t look like the person to be kept waiting,” she says and walks away quietly.
I hesitate for a moment before leaving my desk and stomping my way into his office where I find him leaning comfortably onto his chair.
“What?” I ask through gritted teeth and he chuckles.
“Calm down. I need you to do something for me,” he says.
“I have work to do, Topper,” I inform him.
“I know that. I just wanted you to get me some files. I’ve been told you’re the best employee here–”
“Just get to the point, Topper,” I bark at him.
“Simmer down, don’t bite my head off. I need to see the list of imports and exports that have been done this week, could you do that for me?”
I refuse to reply him and turn towards the door behind me when he stops me.
“Get me a glass of orange juice while you’re at it, will you, Meg?” he asks.
Did he just call me Meg? I leave his office more livid than I was before. This is a nightmare!
