Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille for 26m euros (£23.14m).
The Gunners had to act swiftly, given the intense interest in the 22-year-old Brazilian from rival European clubs.
The player joins the Gunners, on a long-term contract.
Magalhaes said he considered offers from a number of clubs before deciding to join Arsenal.
“The experience was very surreal, I received offers from a few different clubs“, he said.
The player added that he consulted with his family and agents, and even some of Lille’s directors before making his decision.
“As I said, this club’s history and traditions and the team project for the next few years were very motivational for my decision to come here. So here I am, wearing the Arsenal shirt – I will give my best for it.“
A left-footed centre back, Magalhaes made 34 appearances in all competitions for Lille last season, as they finished fourth in Ligue 1.
Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta, says with Magalhaes’ qualities,he’ll make them even stronger as a defense unit and a team.
” He proved be an outstanding defender while at Lille, we are now looking forward to see him grow as an Arsenal player“, said Arteta.
Gabriel Magalhaes joined Lille from Brazilian side Avai in 2017.
