Football Kenya Federation Board (FKF), on Monday 31st August 2020, received nomination forms from aspiring candidates seeking to fill the elective positions at the national level.
Those who presented their papers for the presidential post of FKF include: Boniface Osano and running mate – Innocent Mutiso, Lordvick Aduda and running mate – Athanas Obala AKA Obango, Daniel Mule and running Mate – Peter Lichungu. Former FKF Deputy CEO Herbert Mwachiro, has also joined in the race and says he is looking forward to a transparent process, come 17th of October 2020.
They are all looking to unseat the current FKF President, Nick Mwendwa, who has also presented his papers, for the same race.
On a different note, four other aspirants have shunned from the election exercise, citing doubts over the credibility of the process.
Namely, Sam Nyamweya, Nicholas Musonye, Twaha Mbarak, and Sammy Shollei, the four also cited an ongoing case, challenging the exercise at the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT).
“With the ongoing unresolved matters, there has been no room for dialogue, I thus cannot participate in the election process” said Musonye.
“The courts have so far nullified these elections twice, but nothing has changed. Fifa promised to come and hold talks on the way forward, and that is where we are at. I cannot rubberstamp the process and be a part of it, when it’s facing glaring challenges” said Twaha.
However, the FKF Board Chairperson Kentice Tikolo, said the Board has been impressed by the turnout of the aspirants, noting Kenyans’ interest in football affairs. She added that the board will ensure the 17th October election process is fair and transparent.
