Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has once again intimated that schools might reopen earlier than January 2021. Speaking during the COVID 19 virtual conference on the 31st of August , Mr. Magoha said that if the Ministry of Health reports a further decline in the Covd-19 infections, in the country, the Ministry of Education would consider returning candidates back to class.
According to the CS, both the Ministry of Health and that of Education, have to be in consultation ahead of the expected schools reopening, to ensure the safety of learners.
Addressing the country’s preparedness in handling the Covid-19 pandemic,Mr. Magoha stated that masks, soap and running water must be provided at all learning institutions. He also urged counties to step in and meet the set directives from both the Ministry of Health and Education, indicating that without proper planning, the country could face yet another crisis.
“To buy masks for the learners. we shall require a billion shillings,” said Magoha.
This, according to the CS, would only be possible, when there is a joint approach from the national government, county governments and other stakeholders.
